"Oh, I'm good. Seriously, after all these years, you'd think I would stop amazing myself. But here I am, still doing it."
— Alec, The Kill Order

Alec was a veteran and a pilot for the United States Military. He survived the Sun Flares and was one of the main protagonists of The Kill Order. He was described as an old, strong man and someone who isn't as well-mannered but is kind at heart. For the main duration of the book, he is mostly around best friend and former military ally, Lana, as well as Mark, Trina, Deedee, Darnell and the rest of the Group.

Biography[]

The Kill Order[]

Alec first met up with Mark and Trina in the first few moments after the Sun Flares in the train tunnels of New York City, where the teenagers had to escape from muggers who were targeting Trina and had to hide in a storage closet. Alex followed Mark and Trina there and found three men about to injure the teenagers, but he subdued them. He told the pair that if they wanted to live, they'd follow him. All three of them joined with the rest of the group being Lana, Misty, Toad, Darnell, and Baxter. They all started to head towards the Lincoln Building through the tunnels, but not before Alec saved a nearly dying Baxter from the boiling hot run-on water from the tsunami that struck topside.

After a few weeks of residing at the Lincoln Building, a couple with a yacht demanded fuel and goods to take with them. The thug demanded that all of them put their hands up. At the first request, Alec didn't comply. When the thug asked him if he thought he's joking, waving his gun at him, Alec reluctantly raised his hands, but was too slow. The thug fired some rounds, killing Baxter, and got their attention. The thugs tried to steal their supplies, but Alec managed to take the man down. Mark subdued the other thug, impressing Alex, as the group hijacked the boat and rode to North Carolina, taking the reader to the actual beginning of The Kill Order. It was implied that the yacht ran out of fuel since the group had to travel on foot.

One year after the Sun Flares, Alec was helping make sure that the makeshift town the group was residing in was stable. When a Berg carrying members of the PFC began to fire down darts at the civilians, with Darnell being hit in particular, Alec and Mark boarded the ship and emptied it of its passengers. Alec found the cockpit and tried to get rid of the pilot. Both Mark and he failed to and crashed the Berg miles from town. The pair made it back to the town in three days, only to find that it was utterly destroyed. Alec rounded up his group and attempted to leave to find where the berg came from, but he couldn't since Darnell was barely alive. Darnell later killed himself. As soon as they were about to leave, Misty succumbed to the newly caught sickness and couldn't go on. Toad stayed with her as the rest of the group left into the forest.

A few hours into the night, Mark found a sickly Toad and alerted Alec and Lana. Toad began to lament over Misty's death. Alec ordered Toad to calm down, to which he wouldn't. Alec then dragged Toad into the shrubbery where he ended Toad's suffering. The group was shocked, but Alec believed he did what he had to do and made sure to immediately clean himself, so he wouldn't catch the sickness.

After a few days, the remaining members of the group decided to go to the Appalachian Mountains in New York and began their journey. They came across a ravaged town, full of piles of dead bodies and burned down homes. They managed to find a girl named Deedee, who was abandoned by her brother and her fellow villagers. They took her in, left the town, and managed to make camp not too far from the settlement. Alec and Mark went out late in the night to do some reconnaissance back in Deedee's town. They were captured by the settlement of people who were Infected with the darts' disease and were about to be sacrificed to appease the Gods of the sick, when suddenly another army of Infected began to battle with their captors. In the midst of the fight, one of the Infected started a forest fire that began to sweep through very quickly. Alec and Mark made it out alive and sprinted back to the camp where Trina, Lana and Deedee had gone missing. Alec assumed that Lana made it to the rendezvous they assigned and began to search for them.

In a few days' time, Alec and Mark found a berg had landed and infiltrated it. They crept their way through the large facility and found a spacious auditorium, where a large man, Bruce, was giving a speech to hundreds of his followers. They found out that Trina, Lana and Deedee had been traded to a horde of infected people and that an organization named the Post-Flare Coalition had a Flat Trans to safety in Asheville. Bruce was alerted of their presence and ordered his people to attack them. Mark and Alec retreated, stole a Berg and took off. They flew around for a while before searching the ship for supplies. Within the depths of the Berg, Mark found a weapon, the Transvice, which turned anything it shoots into dust. Alec revered it and lets Mark take one before telling him to get some sleep.

When Mark awoken, Alec told him that he found Trina, Deedee and Lana in a suburban area and that they're about to land a few miles off. They packed the food, water and the newly acquired Transvice's and parted from the Berg to retrieve their friends. They managed to shoot off a few stragglers before hearing the aching scream of Lana. Alec booked it to the source of the sound and found her, hair torn, bloody, beaten, and a shadow of her former self surrounded by three infected. In a fit of absolute rage, Alec began to fire at the men surrounding her, while Mark, never having seen the man so angry, began to shoot as well. They took them out as well as the auxiliary ones. Alec ran over to Lana, Mark following, and witnessed what they've done to her. Alec, seeing that Lana was in the greatest amount of pain, pointed the Transvice to her head and pulled the trigger. Mark then began to see the effect of his partner's death on Alec.

Alec, still emotionally sturdy, and Mark began to search house to house for Trina and Deedee, attracting the attention of many infected. After a few failed attempts, they found the two girls in the basement of a mansion, huddled together. As Mark began to escort the two girls out, a horde of infected attacked the house. In the midst of the action, Trina exclaimed to Alec and Mark that they had to get Deedee to a safe place since she was Immune. With a few scratches and bruises, the group made it out alive, got back to the Berg, and launched up into the sky. Alec and Mark discussed where they should go, and both agreed to get Deedee to the Flat-Trans in Asheville to get her to safety. After the conversation, both men decided to get some sleep while the Berg flew to Asheville.

In the middle of the night, Mark found Alec at the foot of a door and flashed a light to his face. Alec, eyes bloodshot and profusely sweating, declared that he's really sick and was going to die, but swore not to while standing idle. Mark asked him if he could still make it to Ashville, to which Alex said yes. A few hours later, Alec, Mark, Trina and Deedee all prepared to land in the PFC Headquarters in the city but found Bruce and his army leading a siege to destroy the Flat Trans. Hastening, Alec landed Mark, Trina, and Deedee in front of the base. Realizing that this was the last moment they'll all share, he listened to Mark's last request that no matter what happens, he'd know what to do. The trio then rushed into the building, while Alec ascended into the air one last time. He flew around the base and after witnessing the horror of the scene of Bruce's men taking the headquarters, he decided that it was time. He then shifted the plane towards the PFC building and began to soar at top speed. As Trina and Mark embraced after escorting Deedee to safety, Alec piloted the Berg into the building, detonating a massive explosion, obliterating all of them, and ultimately completing his moral mission, "Perish for a cause".
