Dan was a Builder and former Runner whose name was seen engraved on the Wall of the Glade in the The Maze Runner. His name was not crossed out at the time, and therefore he was alive when Thomas arrived. Dan was named after film editor Dan Zimmerman. Dan had long blond hair, had a serious attitude, and wore a blue (or grey) shirt. He was good friends with Gally, Hank, and Unnamed Glader 3 and was often seen with them. When Thomas ran into the Maze, Dan had a shocked expression on his face. Dan was a Runner, but after Alby was stung by a Griever, he and Hank talked with Gally and then changed jobs and became Builders, as they were scared of being stung. Dan was one of the people who were against Thomas, disagreeing with most of the things that he did and thinking that he should be punished for going out into the Maze at night. When the Grievers Attack started, Dan stayed loyal to Gally along with Hank and stayed in the Box with him during the Griever Attack. While hiding inside of the Box, Dan and Hank, both hiding with Gally, were told by Gally to be quiet. When Unnamed Glader 14 tried to join them, he was grabbed by a Griever and killed right in front of them by a Griever before he can enter the Box. After the attack was over, Dan, along with Unnamed Glader 3, followed Gally, who stormed up to Thomas and punched him in the face in rage. The next day, Dan grabbed Teresa and dragged her over to the pole as an offering to the Grievers, but Teresa kicked him in the groin. Since Dan was a loyal friend of Gally, he, along with Gally's group, chose to stay in the Glade instead of joining Thomas' group in leaving. Dan, along with Gally's group, were later left behind by Gally, who also escaped. Dan survived and was seen in the background of the Safe Haven, confirming his survival.
