"It's kind of hard to ask a dead guy what he did wrong."
— Minho, The Maze Runner

Minho was the Keeper of the Runners and one of the secondary protagonists of The Maze Runner Series.

Biography

The Fever Code

In The Fever Code, Minho is introduced as a ten-year-old boy fighting some nurses. It is the brain surgery day when the subjects get their implants. Minho yells a warning to a stunned Thomas before the nurses can sedate him. Later, he becomes close friends with Newt and Alby, sneaking out of their sleeping barracks at night regularly. After some time, the three of them decide to get to know the elites, Thomas and Teresa, better, and ultimately become friends with them. One night, Minho, along with Newt and Alby, take Thomas and Teresa outside. They get caught by Randall Spilker, who has them taken to the Crank pits, except for Newt, who is not immune. In the Crank pits, they experience numerous Cranks past the Gone, separated from them only by a fence. When they go back, John Michael approaches them, holding a sign which said: "WICKED is good". He has caught the Flare, too, but has enough sanity left to talk to them. Michael tells them that they need to find a cure, to help people like him, Cranks. But he realizes that it is too late for him. To his request, Randall grants him a quick, merciful death. The kids only hear the shot. This puts an end to their midnight meetings for quite some time, until Teresa figures out how to hack the security system and feed camera loops to it so that they can meet again.

However, Minho never puts up with being sort of imprisoned by WICKED and, together with Gally, attempts to escape. They get caught, and Minho gets punished: he is tied to a chair, and Randall releases a Griever onto him but stops it short from actually killing Minho. This punishment is repeated to allow all elite subjects (Thomas, Teresa, Aris, and Rachel) to watch. After this, Minho is traumatized and keeps to himself, not participating in any midnight meetings anymore.

The next time Minho meets Thomas and Teresa is the day before their insertion into the Maze, in which he shows his feeling of betrayal by knowing that Thomas and Teresa would not be inserted into the Maze.

The Maze Runner

In The Maze Runner, Minho first appears when Thomas sees him leaving the Maze early. Thomas calls for Alby, who is directed by Minho to get him water. Alby tells Thomas that Minho is the only one who can boss around. After Alby brings the water, Minho explains that he found a dead Griever. The next day, Minho, along with Alby, go into the Maze to find the dead Griever. When Alby touches the Griever, it springs to life and stings him. Minho has to carry an unconscious Alby back through the maze to the other Gladers for help, but after the doors start closing, everyone knows it is too late for them. Thomas jumps through the doors a second before they close. Minho at first tells Thomas how stupid he was for following them into the Maze. Minho then runs in panic, hoping to avoid any grieves. but Thomas, being the new guy, thinks there is hope. He climbs the wall and drags Alby with him. After a Griever starts following them, Thomas flees, leaving Alby behind, then Thomas fools the Grievers with a special diving maneuver which Minho sees. Minho grabs Thomas and together they trick the Grievers into going off the Cliff with the same maneuver.

Minho makes it back to the Glade along with Thomas and Alby. The Gladers have a Gathering to decide what is to be done with rule-breaking Thomas. Minho shows up at the Gathering, which confirms that he is the Keeper of the Runners. Minho suggests after Thomas’s display of skill they he should be made Keeper of the Runners, but after Newt objects to his having such a major role so soon, Thomas becomes just a Runner. Minho teaches him everything he needs to know and runs into the Maze with him several times. Later, he supports Thomas' plan to escape from the Maze by going through the Griever Hole.

The Scorch Trials

In The Scorch Trials, after escaping the Maze, the Gladers, who have survived the battle, find themselves being rescued by people who were against WICKED. The next morning, though, they know something is suspicious. In a nearby room, they find the people who helped them hanging from the ceiling, apparently dead. However, Teresa isn't in her room, when it isn't Teresa who was inside there. It is a boy named Aris, the Trigger in Group B. Somebody notices a tattoo on Aris' neck. Minho has one as well, though he said, "The Leader." After a while, they find out that somebody had locked the door from the outside. Later on, they get out, where a man, whom they dub Rat Man, tells them about their next trials, where they have to find the Safe Haven.

They go into the Scorch, and the leadership is all Minho's. For the first part, they try to escape from killer metal balls that cut heads off. They later run through a severe lightning storm, where Minho catches fire. Finally, they make it to a building, where they wait out the storm.

It turns out that the building is inhabited by people who have gone crazy due to the Flare. The leader of the infected people, also known as Cranks, is Jorge. After an altercation between Minho and Jorge, Thomas has a private conversation with Jorge, and they decide not to kill Minho but instead cut a finger off each hand. They come back out and Jorge told everyone the news, which scared Minho. Jorge never completes the act, having only said that to scare Minho and get praise from his group.

Then, Minho, along with Jorge and the rest of the Gladers, are separated from Thomas and Brenda, the girl Jorge was taking to the haven with them, and finally, rescue them from some Cranks. They continue their way to the safe haven until they meet Group B, who, led by Teresa, kidnap Thomas and tell them not to follow if they didn't want to die.

Yelling threats to Group B, Minho promises to find Thomas. Finally, he does meet him in the haven, and together, the Gladers, Group B, Jorge, and Teresa manage to survive the storm and the creatures, being "rescued" by WICKED when all is over.

The Death Cure

In The Death Cure, four weeks later, Minho is left with his fellow Gladers without Thomas and wonders when he will meet him again. The time finally comes, for Thomas is released by the Rat Man and reunites with Minho, who declares that the mighty Gladers are back together again. Rat Man re-enters the room and announces that the Swipe, the device that is used to prevent the Gladers from remembering their history, would be removed and they would finally get their memories back. In response, the Gladers begin to question the statement as hiding something more sinister and begin arguing. They had lost many friends at WICKED's hands. Rat Man calms them down and tells them they will relieve their pasts through the removal of the Swipe. Thomas tells Minho to be careful in making a move against WICKED despite them being the causes of many deaths. Newt promises to plan an escape from WICKED's headquarters, but not before settling a score with WICKED.

After their conversation, the Gladers leave the auditorium and reach a laboratory, where Rat Man is waiting for them. Rat Man explains he will remove the Swipe through surgery. There is only one thing to do before: He tells them only a few of them are not immune to the Flare. He reads the list to them, and the first name of those not immune is Newt, which seems to upset his friends more than himself. When Rat Man left the room to check on the doctors, Minho, along with Thomas, asked whether Teresa would do it or not. Teresa said she would, and it was the only way to gain freedom from WICKED, though Minho and Newt disagreed. Minho, Thomas, and Newt huddled together, and Newt told Minho and Thomas he has planned something out: the three of them would stick around with the other Gladers until they are given the right time, they will escape WICKED's headquarters, to which Minho quickly agreed with along with Thomas.

Rat Man re-enters the room with many doctors, among them Brenda. She spontaneously hugs Thomas and whispers a warning into his ear. Rat Man, now revealed to be Janson, angrily ordered Brenda to return to her post and distribute the subjects to different rooms, all like the first, so their swipes can be removed simultaneously. In the last moment, Frypan agrees to have his swipe removed, but Minho, Thomas, and Newt all refuse to have the swipe removed. Janson then warns Minho, Thomas, and Newt against attempting to escape WICKED's headquarters and they will be shot by WICKED guards and expresses his frustration at the trio for refusing his offer and says they would still be under his control even after they complete the cure's blueprint, much to Minho's annoyance, and Janson orders the WICKED guards to take them away.

The three Gladers are imprisoned in a small room, where they discuss an opportunity to escape. Thomas quickly mentioned Brenda telling him to only trust a person named Paige, which Minho, along with Newt, believed to indicate she was working with WICKED all along. Thomas claimed that WICKED's intentions make no sense, but assured his friends that they would find out more once they escaped and that Janson does not know what his actions are doing to the world. Newt told Thomas not to waste his chance to break out of WICKED's headquarters and they slept. Later, Minho was awoken by Janson and three WICKED guards along with Thomas and Newt. Janson told them they would have the Swipe removed anyway. Minho pretended to cooperate with Janson and when Newt questioned Janson about the other Gladers, he replied that the "subjects" were recovering. Newt, enraged at the term, attacked Janson, warning him not to call the Gladers subjects, but was pulled away by two WICKED guards. In response, Minho, along with Thomas, attacked the guards but were quickly subdued and Minho was taken by Janson and a few WICKED guards along with Newt while Janson ordered Thomas to be taken to Brenda for treatment.

After a few minutes, an escaped Thomas and Brenda stormed into the room with stolen weapons and freed Minho and Newt, who took down the guards and stole their guns while Thomas held Janson at gunpoint and Janson gave up his keycard but taunted Thomas that he and his companions will never escape as many WICKED guards were on their way, which Thomas responded to by shooting Janson and knocking him unconscious. Minho, along with his companions, decided to head for the hangar where they could use a berg to escape. They confronted and defeated a few more guards, but the other Gladers are nowhere to be found. Instead, they discover the weapons store, where Newt points out that half the racks are empty, and someone has taken a lot of weapons only a short time ago. Minho taunts him for stating the obvious, not getting Newt's point. Newt reacts uncommonly snappy and leaves the room to recompose himself. When he returns, another cutting remark from Minho sets him off completely, leading to an actual brawl between the two of them. Thomas and Brenda take them apart and calm them down enough to eventually get some ammunition packs.

Later, Minho, along with Thomas, found a room with the door locked and the WICKED guards tied up. Brenda suggested interrogating them, but Thomas refused and moved on. Along with his friends, Minho eventually reached the hangar only to find one of the three bergs missing and Jorge injured. When Brenda questioned Jorge, Jorge told them that while he was in the hangar, he was approached by Teresa and the other Gladers, also with stolen weaponry, and was knocked out. After that, Teresa and the other Gladers hijacked one of the bergs and escaped. Before they could get inside a berg, a dozen WICKED guards stormed into the hangar and opened fire on Thomas and his friends. Minho told Jorge to start up a berg while they fight the guards. Jorge complied and ran off to power up a berg while Minho fought the WICKED guards alongside Thomas, Newt, and Brenda. The guards, unaware of the stolen weaponry the Gladers possessed, were easily underestimated and quickly beaten by the Gladers.

At the same time, Jorge had powered up a berg and shouted at Thomas and Brenda to get on board, but before they could reach the berg, however, one of the WICKED guards shot Brenda in the back and Minho, along with Thomas and Newt, rushed over to help her. Seconds later, Jorge emerged from the berg with a flame launcher and incinerated many of the WICKED guards. Minho quickly grabbed Brenda and carried her to the berg and Thomas followed but was shot by one of the WICKED guards before he could enter the vehicle. Thomas crawled with all his might towards the berg. When he eventually reached it, Minho, along with Newt, shielded him and fired at the WICKED guards and dragged Thomas aboard as the hatch closed and Jorge took off. Minho, along with Thomas, Newt, Brenda, and Jorge, finally escaped WICKED's headquarters as Thomas passed out.

Ten hours later, Jorge landed the berg in a big clearing. Later, Thomas awakened and called a meeting with Minho and Newt to discuss going to a city called Denver which Jorge pinpointed as the location of Teresa and the other Gladers and Brenda mentioned Hans, an ex-scientist working for WICKED who has left the organization after discovering their true intentions and that he can remove the Swipe from the Gladers' brains and Minho agreed to go to Denver along with Newt. After a meeting with them, Jorge reactivated the berg and flew off, heading for Denver as Thomas fell asleep.

When they had another gathering, Minho asked why Brenda was with WICKED, but she explained that she was never with them and that after surviving so long in the Scorch, she sees a chance. Brenda then mentioned Hans and WICKED's manipulation skills and that there are many people after them. Newt, however, cared little about the Swipe's removal and angrily told his companions not to persuade him to enter Denver and stormed off. Thomas realized that the right time to read Newt's message to him was coming closer and began wondering what it meant. Later, the berg arrived in Denver, and Minho, along with Thomas, Brenda, and Jorge, disembarked and left Newt on board the berg. When the four went through security, Jorge used fake last names to gain access to the city. When the four finally got access to the interior of Denver, a man approached Minho and Thomas and told them that a group of people have escaped WICKED's headquarters, and he believed that Thomas and his companions were part of the group and handed a message to Thomas and told him to accept the advice the message contained within the message and walked away.

Thomas opened the message to find out that it was from his former nemesis Gally telling Thomas to meet him in apartment 2792 and that he is with an organization called the Right Arm. Minho had a hard time believing it was Gally, but later came to understand that Gally was being used as a puppet by WICKED, was taken into custody, treated of his injuries, and set free and somehow made it to Denver and suggested they see him before finding Hans when Jorge had told Thomas that the Right Arm is an organization to sabotage WICKED for good. They took a taxi and reached the apartment, where Gally greeted them and told them that the end of the world is upon mankind.

Gally lets them in and Thomas apologized to Gally for fighting him and Gally apologized in turn for killing Chuck. Minho also apologized for their dispute in the Glade. Gally told Minho and his companions about the Right Arm taking action against WICKED, but it doesn't have enough resources to disrupt their activities. He revealed that a bunch of spies took him to Denver from WICKED's headquarters and after a few weeks, they heard about the escape from WICKED's headquarters through a netblock message. Gally also told the group that the Right Arm has two problems to deal with: the Flare is spreading slowly through Denver despite the city's official's attempts to cover it up, and many citizens who are immune to the Flare, called Immunes, have been disappearing and an informant told Gally that they were taken by WICKED and imprisoned them somewhere he did not know, but he assumed it was to continue the Trials.

Thomas then questioned Gally if he knew about Teresa's supposed escape along with the other Gladers the same day. Gally replied that he was well aware of both escapes and that the Right Arm also found them and that Teresa was his informant, making Thomas think she went through the removal of the Swipe along with the others and possibly triggered the truth about WICKED's true intentions. Gally also informed Thomas that Teresa herself is searching for him and that Hans, the doctor Brenda had mentioned earlier, has a large bounty placed on his head and that WICKED wants him dead because they believe Thomas came to Denver for Hans. Afterward, they left, and Thomas promised Gally that he would return and Gally replied that the Right Arm will take action soon and they need as many people and information as they can get and also warned Thomas that there is not much time, but there is still hope. Along with Thomas, Brenda, and Jorge, Minho eventually found Hans in his apartment and, despite the alarm that set on Thomas's brain to stop it from happening and thanks to Minho's (among others) help, they got their implants removed.

Minho escapes with the other Immunes and lives in the paradise. It is mentioned that he took control of the group of Immunes.

In The Maze Cutter, Minho died of unknown causes during the 73-year gap between The Death Cure and The Maze Cutter.

However, there is another Minho.

The Maze Runner

In the film adaptation of The Maze Runner, Minho is first introduced when he returns from the Maze along with Ben, running past Thomas and Chuck. He observes Thomas wrestling with Gally at the bonfire before Gally knocks Thomas down, causing him to remember his name.

When Ben is banished, Minho leads him out from the Pit before cutting his bonds and throwing a pack with supplies into the Maze. He refuses to make eye contact with the former Runner as the other Keepers push Ben into the Maze.

Minho and Alby make a trip into the Maze the next morning with the hope to retrace Ben's steps. Later, Minho returns with an unconscious Alby, struggling to make it through the doors. Despite the other Gladers yelling at him to leave Alby behind, he continues to drag the older boy with him as the doors start to close. Before they close shut, Thomas slips through them in an attempt to help. Frustrated, Minho yells at Thomas for being stupid before starting to panic about the Grievers. Thomas points out that they need to help Alby in some way, before eyeing the walls of vines. Both start to pull Alby up one of the walls until Minho hears a Griever approaching. In a panic, he apologizes to Thomas before running in the opposite direction as the Griever enters their portion of the Maze.

After evading one Griever intent on following him, Thomas catches up with Minho who starts to lead him down a section of the Maze that is starting to change. He yells at Thomas to run while the latter taunts the Griever to come after him as the wall starts to close, crushing the Griever's body in between. The pair make it back to the Glade shortly after the doors open with Alby in tow. Chuck asks if they saw a Griever and Minho replies that Thomas didn't just see one but killed it.

The Gladers hold a council over Thomas' act of running into the Maze despite their rules. Gally insists that he needs to be punished while Newt addresses Minho, asking for his thoughts. Minho admits that no one's ever seen a Griever and lived to talk about it. He concludes that while he doesn't know whether Thomas acted bravely or stupidly for what he did, he says that they need more of it and suggests that Thomas become a Runner to the shock of the Keepers and Gladers alike. Before a decision can be made, The Box alarm sounds and Minho watches as Newt announces that the new arrival is a girl.

Minho accompanies Thomas, Newt, and the Med-jacks to the medical hut as they put an unconscious Teresa on a bunk next to Alby. Minho runs after Thomas, who is determined to go back into the Maze to examine the Griever corpse. Minho hesitates at the prospect of returning, especially since the other Runners quit on him earlier that morning. Eventually, he gathers up Frypan, Winston, and Zart to accompany him and Thomas into the Maze.

Once the group locates the corpse, Thomas points out that he sees something, prompting the group to tug on a leg to break it from the body. Minho pulls out something with a blinking light and notes that it has a digital number in the window, along with a WCKD nameplate on the side. The group returns with their findings to the Council Hall and share the information with Newt and Gally. Newt concludes that Thomas will be sent to the Pit without food for a night and decides to make Thomas a Runner, despite Gally's protests.

Minho takes Thomas to the Map Room to show him the model of the Maze he and the other Runners built over 3 years. He admits that he's run every part of the Maze, but they've been unsuccessful in finding a pattern. He notes that Section 7 was open last night, which is unusual, as it is not supposed to be open for another week. He and Thomas plan to go out and check out the Section the next morning, before Jeff and Clint run into the Map Room, saying that Teresa is awake.

The next morning, Minho frees Thomas from the Pit, asking if the latter is having second thoughts. Thomas confirms that he's ready to go and Minho leads them to Section 7, which happens to be open. He spots a stained tank on the ground and concludes it was Ben's, meaning the former Runner had been here at one point. Thomas picks up on a beeping sound coming from the metal cylinder they ripped from the Griever's body and uses it to follow where the signal is strong. Eventually, they are led to the back of Section 7 and the cylinder unlocks a hidden door. The boys enter and find another area, which they conclude is the Griever's entrance. Something scans them and walls start to close, prompting both boys to return to the Glade. They share their information with the Gladers before Teresa tells them that Alby is awake.

Minho watches as Thomas and Newt address Alby, the latter who remembers his life before the Maze and that Thomas helped to put him in there. He breaks down and cries before Winston tells the group that the doors aren't closing. During the Grievers' attack, Grievers charge through the open doors and Minho joins the others as they hide in the Council Hall. He is forced to witness Alby being taken by the Grievers after the leader protected Chuck from getting stung.

Once the Grievers leave, Gally emerges from his hiding place and punches Thomas in the face in far more rage, violence, and aggressiveness than before. Minho and the remaining Keepers restrain Gally, telling him it isn't Thomas' fault. He rushes to Thomas' side as the other boy stabs himself in the thigh with the Griever's stinger to trigger his memories back. A few days later, Thomas wakes up in the Pit, and Newt reveals that Gally has taken command. Newt tells Thomas that he was onto something and that he needs to finish what he started.

Gally leads Teresa and Thomas out to the edge of the Glade near the doors, intending to use them as sacrifices to the Grievers. Minho and Newt stand off to the side, watching as Gally's friends try to tie up Thomas, who fights back and knocks them unconscious. Both join Thomas and Teresa, who plan to leave the Maze to see if they can find a new life outside, while Gally chooses to stay in the Glade.

Minho fights alongside the small group of Gladers who accompany them and is almost killed by Griever until Jeff intervenes. Teresa punches in the Section numbers based on the patterns Minho discovered, which opens a door into a hallway. After locating the exit, they observe the fallen soldiers and mess left in the control room. Thomas pulls up a message left by Ava Paige and the group watches as she tries to explain why they conducted the Maze Trials in the first place.

Once the message ends, the group begins to head out until Gally, having been stung by a Griever, appears with a gun, insisting that they will never be free. Gally fires a bullet at Thomas, but Chuck sacrifices himself by taking the bullet in the chest, giving Minho a chance to throw a spear at Gally, causing it to non-fatally impale him in the chest, causing Gally to drop to his knees, drop the gun, and collapse on his right side on the floor. The group mourns Chuck before a group of soldiers enter the control room and lead them to a helicopter outside, claiming that they are safe.

The Scorch Trials

In the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, Minho yells Thomas' name, telling him to wake up as they have to exit the berg. He and the other surviving Gladers are ushered inside a large warehouse-like building before being taken to a room with a table of food laid out for them.

Later, Janson visits the group after they have devoured the feast and shows them around the warehouse, claiming it is a Safe Haven from WCKD and the elements. Minho questions him about why they were saved and helped, to which Janson replies that the world is falling apart and that the Gladers are valuable after escaping. He directs the Gladers to the shower room before they're given physicals and tests are run on them. Minho is jogging on a treadmill when Thomas is pulled aside for questioning by Janson.

After the meeting, Thomas meets up with Minho and the other male Gladers in the dining room. Minho reveals that they weren't the only Maze experiment, leading him to a table where two boys from another Maze strike up a conversation with them. The other two boys note that they just arrived, versus Aris, who arrived a week ago. When Janson begins reading off the names of various individuals, the group questions what just happened. They are told that these lucky few who were called are being taken to a Safe Haven, supposedly some kind of farm, but only a small number can be transported out at a time.

When shown to their room, Minho claims a top bunk and falls asleep, while Thomas is woken by Aris, who shows him a mysterious room where gurneys are wheeled in every night. Thomas expresses concerns about their location, while the others think he's being paranoid. Choosing to ignore Newt's advice, Thomas gets into a shoving match with one of the guards in an attempt to swipe his ID card. As punishment, the Group A boys are sent back to their dorm. Minho and the others express frustration over Thomas' reckless behaviour until the latter reveals he had swiped the ID card to access the mysterious room with Aris.

Moments later, Thomas and Aris return, warning the Group A guys that they need to get out of the base. Thomas reveals that WCKD rescued them and that they aren't safe. The group gathers their possessions and crawls out through the air vents. Aris and Winston split up to handle something and Minho, Thomas, Newt, and Frypan attempt to search for Teresa. They run into the female doctor tending to Teresa and hold her hostage as they search for her room. Eventually, guards find them thanks to the alarm that has sounded, and Minho, in rage and frustration, jumps and knocks out a guard, stealing his gun for protection.

The doctor takes them to the room where Teresa is being tested and Minho holds the gun while Newt ties up the other medical personnel. As guards struggle to get into Teresa's room, Minho fires at them while Thomas and Newt break the glass on the window to get out. Minho tosses Thomas the gun as he climbs out of the room and the group begins heading for the exit.

Thomas assumes possession of the gun as Minho and Newt struggle with scanning the ID card. Once they get the door open, they cross to the other side before Janson orders security to close the door. Thomas is forced to abandon the gun and run, barely making it before the door closes. Aris breaks the keypad on their end to prevent anyone from letting Janson out.

The group manages to unlock the large lock on the door and make their way into the Scorch. They seek refuge in an abandoned mall/warehouse and start gathering supplies for their journey into the mountains. Minho and Thomas check for a light source and stumble across a generator, that brings the power on for the majority of the warehouse. Minho yells at Thomas to look out like a deranged woman missing her eyes comes charging at him through a gate. Her cries alert more like her, and the guys are forced to run, yelling at the others to run.

The group defends themselves as best as they can against their attackers, finding a door that leads out. Winston reveals a gun he grabbed from WCKD and tries to ward off the Cranks with bullets. The group gets the door open, only to have Cranks grab and scratch at Winston's stomach before he's pulled to safety. The Gladers hide in a basement level crawlspace from the Cranks, waiting for them to disappear.

The next morning, the group discovers they are alone and start heading into the ruins of the city. Thomas hears Bergs flying overhead and yells at the group to hide as they pass. They decide to head for the mountains to find the Right Arm, a resistance group that has been reportedly raiding WCKD bases and labs in search of Immunes to rescue.

As they travel on, Winston worsens, and the guys take turns carrying him. While resting, Winston gets hold of the gun and the others struggle, trying to get it away from him. The former reveals his injuries are getting worse and he doesn't want to become one of them. He begs the group to leave him so he can end his life, leading Newt to give him the gun.

Minho expresses sadness over losing Winston later that night. The others admit that they thought they were supposed to be Immune, while Teresa reveals that not all of them are. Newt says that they need to assume that they could also not be Immune as well.

The group begins to run out of supplies and continues to struggle against the harsh conditions in the Scorch. Thomas notices a building in the distance and encourages the group to run to it as a thunderstorm rages. Minho is hit by lightning, lying unconscious on the ground. Thomas and the others help Minho get into the building and manage to revive him. They discover they're surrounded by chained up Cranks and huddle close until a young woman addresses their presence. She leads them to Jorge, who asks them three questions. Minho challenges the question about where they came from, stating that it is their business. This prompts Jorge's men to hold down the Gladers while the young woman, named Brenda, scans Thomas's neck. She shows the result to Jorge, who notes that they came from WCKD, which makes them valuable.

The Gladers are strung upside over an open hole in the warehouse. Minho complains about Thomas agreeing to talk/listen to Jorge and the group notices that the lever to lower them is close to Teresa. Before they can initiate their plan, Jorge visits them and asks them what they know about the Right Arm. When Jorge is unconvinced by the small amount of information given, he drops the Gladers a short distance before Thomas reveals he only knows that they are supposedly in the mountains. This prompts Jorge to leave them hanging while he packs up his possessions, planning to take the Gladers and Brenda to the Right Arm with the hope that they'll be granted access to the Safe Haven too.

Once Teresa reaches the lever, she gets herself free and helps the rest of the group get loose. Before they can escape, a henchman of Jorge's returns, planning to sell them out to WCKD. Thomas tries to fight him, only to have the henchman point a gun at them. Brenda kills the henchman and leads the group to the zipline to escape. Minho slides after Jorge and escapes the warehouse before it is blown up.

Minho, Newt, Frypan, Aris, Teresa, and Jorge travel to the city to find Marcus, a man who has worked with the Right Arm to smuggle Immune kids to a Safe Haven. They find Marcus had lured and drugged Brenda and Thomas, planning to offer them with other drugged Immunes to WCKD. Jorge tortures Marcus for information while the group looks on. Eventually, Marcus reveals that they are in the mountains, but it will take a week to get there. Jorge then reveals that he will be "borrowing" Bertha, Marcus's car.

The Gladers and Jorge journey to the base of the mountains where the road is blocked by abandoned cars, forcing the group to travel on foot. Before they walk any further, they are ambushed by bullets shot from above. Two girls confront Jorge and Thomas, ordering them to drop the grenade Jorge has in his hand. The Gladers are rounded up and ordered on their feet by the girls, who turn out to be Sonya and Harriet from Aris' Maze. The trio reunite and the girls reveal that they are working with the Right Arm.

They take the Gladers to their camp and reveal that they are planning to head to the Safe Haven tomorrow morning. The leader Vince wants to check all of the newcomers to see if they are Immune, which is interrupted by Brenda succumbing to her injuries from a Crank and collapsing. Vince plans to shoot Brenda until Mary Cooper intervenes, offering to help Brenda when she realizes that Thomas is with them.

The Gladers are given food and warm clothing for the night. They are relieved to be free from WCKD, but Minho expresses his doubts about Aris, saying that he doesn't trust him. Thomas breaks away from the group to find Teresa, who reluctantly reveals that she called WCKD, saying that the group needs to help them find a cure. Minho tries to help Vince fight WCKD soldiers as the base is ambushed, but is hit and is knocked to the ground.

WCKD soldiers arrange all of the Right Arm volunteers and Immunes into lines, scanning the tattoos at the back of their necks to check them in. WCKD reads off Minho as A4 before moving onto the next person. Thomas gives himself up, being forced into line beside Minho. Minho asks him why he didn't run, to which Thomas replies that he is tired of running.

When Teresa reveals to the group and the Right Arm that she shared their location, the Gladers express disbelief and are upset at her betrayal. She insists that they won't be harmed, but they need to help WCKD find a cure for the world. Mary Cooper steps forward and announces to Ava Paige that at least she'll die with a conscience. Janson shoots her in the stomach and Thomas pulls out the grenade from Jorge's bag, yelling that he would rather die than go with WCKD. Minho, Newt, and Frypan vote to die with him, despite Teresa and Ava's pleas. Before Thomas can detonate the grenade, Jorge charges at WCKD soldiers in a borrowed car. The Right Arm starts fighting back while some of the Immunes are loaded into the berg.

Minho shoots at the soldiers while Vince fires his machine gun at the soldiers. He runs out of ammo and is hit by a stun gun. WCKD soldiers take him, Aris, and Sonya to the berg as Thomas yells Minho's name.

In the film adaptation of The Death Cure, in the programmed trials WCKD had put him through in order to extract his blood, Minho wakes up in the Glade and sees Alby, Chuck, and Winston carving something on the wall. Minho calls out to them, causing them to turn to him. Minho sees a little boy run into the hut and follows him but is chased by a Griever. He runs from it but is telekinetically pulled up to the ceiling as the Griever closes in on him.

The next day, Minho is brought to a room by WCKD soldiers where Teresa tells him that a little girl named Cheyenne has been infected for three weeks and that Minho can save her and everyone else. But when Teresa is about to leave the room, Minho attacks her, screaming at her for being a traitor. Before the WCKD soldiers restrain him, Minho grabs a metal hair clip from Teresa.

At night, Minho is brought to the medical wing where the scientists decide to raise his doses. Minho uses the metal hair clip to stab the scientist in the thigh and fights the scientists. Minho sees a WCKD soldier about to shoot Thomas and Newt, who have infiltrated the WCKD Tower in WCKD soldier uniforms, prompting him to throw him into a window before embracing Thomas and Newt.

While running from Janson and the WCKD soldiers, Minho, along with Thomas and Newt, manage to lock themselves in a room. Thomas and Minho manage to shatter the window and they and Newt jump out of the window and into the pool.

When Minho, along with Thomas and Newt, climb out of the pool, four WCKD soldiers appear, ordering them to surrender, but one of them shoots the other three, then takes off his helmet and reveals himself to be Gally. Minho is shocked to see that Gally is alive, and Gally tells him, Thomas, and Newt that they are nuts.

While hiding from the WCKD soldiers along with Thomas, Newt, and Gally, Minho asks Newt how he is feeling. Newt replies that he feels terrible. While Thomas carries Newt off into the Last City, Minho asks Gally why he is helping them, as he put a spear through his chest. Gally replies that nobody is perfect.

While heading with Thomas, Newt, and Gally to meet up with Frypan, Brenda, and the Immune children outside the walls of the Last City, Minho sees the walls exploding as a result of Lawrence sacrificing himself to destroy them and allow the Crank army to storm the Last City and battle the WCKD soldiers, but chooses to continue on along with Thomas, Newt, and Gally instead of worrying about that.

While hiding behind garden beds along with Thomas, Newt, and Gally, Minho sees the battle between the WCKD soldiers and the Crank army. Unwilling to watch the battle, Minho is forced to escape along with Thomas, Newt, and Gally.

Newt is unable to get to the berg due to being infected by the Flare, prompting Minho, along with Gally, to run to the berg to get the serum from Brenda. Minho arrives at the berg along with Gally, asking Brenda where the serum is. Minho, along with Gally, Frypan, and Brenda, run to the train station where they see that Thomas has killed Newt. While Thomas walks off to the WCKD Tower, Minho kneels at Newt's dead body along with Frypan, with Gally and Brenda watching on.

Minho, along with Gally, Frypan, and Brenda, return to the berg where Jorge flies them, Vince, and the Immune children to the top of the WCKD Tower where Thomas and Teresa are. Thomas is unable to get on the berg due to being shot in the stomach by Janson, but Teresa manages to throw him onto the ramp of the berg, allowing Minho to pull him on board with the help of Gally, Frypan, Brenda, and Vince. Teresa falls to her death when the tower building collapses. As Jorge flies Minho, Thomas, Gally, Frypan, Brenda, Vince, and the Immune children away from the WCKD Tower, Minho helps Gally bandage Thomas' wound along with Frypan, Brenda, and Vince.

Sometime later, Minho, along with Thomas, Gally, Frypan, Brenda, Jorge, Vince, Aris, Sonya, Harriet, the Right Arm, and the Immune children, arrive at the Safe Haven. Minho, along with Jorge, are carving something when they see Thomas, who has woken up, approaching them. Minho hugs Thomas. At night, at the campfire, Minho, along with Thomas, Gally, Frypan, Brenda, Jorge, Aris, Sonya, Harriet, the Right Arm, and the Immune children, listen to Vince give a speech.

Minho gives Thomas Newt's necklace, which Thomas discovers contains a note from Newt, which he reads. Minho goes to the Memorial Rock and engraves Newt's name on it. Minho is sitting with Gally, Frypan, Brenda, Jorge, Vince, Aris, Sonya, Harriet, the Right Arm, and the Immune children at the campfire when Thomas approaches them and sits down with them. The next day, while Minho is sleeping, Thomas goes to the Memorial Rock and engraves Teresa's name on it. Thomas walks along the beach, stops walking, looks at the ocean and the ship, pulls out the serum, looks at it, and looks out into the distance.

It is revealed in a deleted scene that when Newt attempted suicide in the Maze by jumping off a Maze wall, Minho was the one who brought him back to the Glade right before the doors closed. (Newt gives this as a reason to rescue Minho when he is held hostage and being run tests on by WCKD.)

Physical Appearance & Personality

Thomas described Minho as an Asian teenage boy who looks to be a little older than him and has strong arms and short, black hair. Minho is aggressive, but loyal, and tends to be sarcastic. Throughout the books, some characters mention his habit of always having the last word in any argument or debate. Minho is also noted to have one of the best senses of humour amongst the Gladers. His name was mentioned in an interview with the author, James Dashner, who said it was a reference to a possible future scientist. In the first book, The Maze Runner, Minho seems to make a lot of comments and jokes to scare Thomas, and seems to be rude and scary at first, but his personality quickly changes and shows that he is really just a playful person with lots of sarcasm. He earns Thomas' respect once he orders Alby to go get him water, and makes fun of Thomas while Alby goes to get him the water. Minho was one of the very few Gladers who could talk to Alby like that. Minho is a very loyal friend who sticks to his right and always supports Thomas on everything. Minho might not seem to like it, but he has plenty of feelings rooted inside of him and loves all his friends, and though he was sarcastic about all his feelings all the time, he also expressed his feelings in his own way, very different at times.

Powers & Abilities

Powers

  • Disease Immunity: Minho was shown to be immune to the effects of the deadly Flare virus. In the film adaptation of The Death Cure, WCKD had harvested his blood to create a new serum to test it on a young girl named Shai Lun, which slowed down her infection. However, on the very next day afterward, the serum had spread the virus even further, causing her to transform into a Crank.

Abilities

Minho mental memory

Minho showing Thomas the model of the Maze

  • Eidetic Memory: Minho seemed to have an above-average memory. During the last three years in the Maze as the Keeper of the Runners, he mapped all the sections in order to puzzle when it change during the night and days including giving strategy to newfound Runners. When joining Thomas and the others in escaping the Maze, the door required eight-digit numbers to unlock it and he used his knowledge to memorize the sections as the code and succeeded at getting everyone out alive. In the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, it was shown in a deleted scene where Minho and the group were escaping the WCKD compound, he remembered the pathway to the door, which was where they first arrived.
Minho Serenity

Minho tranquiling his rage to lure Teresa near him

  • Tranquil Fury: Throughout the three film adaptations of the books, Minho's emotional rage was shown to trigger his adrenal gland to help increase his physical prowess to near borderline-enhanced feats in difficult situations while remaining in a tranquil state over it. In the film adaptation of The Maze Runner, he was able to keep calm while grabbing and throwing a spear at Gally, causing it to non-fatally impale him in the chest, with quick accuracy. In the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, Minho pushed a huge object that would require more than one person on his own, and after six months of going through tormented events, his mind was so overwhelmed that it constantly caused an adrenaline rush to aid his attacks in far more rage than before while retaining control and relentless to use with his friends in battling against WCKD.
Minho Workout

Minho exercising on a treadmill to maintain his peak

  • Peak of Human Physical Condition: Minho has spent years tested by WCKD, which allowed his body to reach peak physical characteristics such as exceptional feats of strength, speed, resilience and memory as he can handle multiple situations in field of dangerous events. In the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, when he and his group were extracted to a WCKD facility, he once exercised on a treadmill for his condition to stay in top shape as recommended by for temporary testing.
Minho Wrath

Minho tossing a WCKD soldier through a glass window

    • Peak Human Strength: Minho was shown to be a physical and mental athletic boy at his peak potential. As in the film adaptation of The Maze Runner, when a Griever came from above him, he kept it off of him before it could bite him by using a spear. In the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, when escaping the WCKD headquarters, a WCKD guard armed with a Launcher comes up and then Minho knocked him up against the wall. When being chased by a swarm of Cranks with Thomas, Minho was able push a heavy inanimate object to the floor as a barricade with great immense effort without any assistance. In the film adaptation of The Death Cure, Minho's aggressive attitude was able to activate his adrenal gland which was strong enough for him to grab a full grown WCKD guard and threw him off his feet through a glass window with ease, then he helped Thomas toss a gas tank to shatter a glass wall making a way out.
Minho Dashing

Minho running through the Maze with Thomas

    • Peak Human Speed: In his time inside the Maze, Minho used to be the Keeper of the Runners and spent the last three years trying to figure a way out. As a Runner, he was shown to possess peak speed in the film adaptation of The Maze Runner, he ran through the Maze with Thomas and when the section began changing, Minho sprinted back to the Glade through deadly obstacles along with Thomas just in time before the doors and new pathway closed. Then in the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, he outran a group of Cranks with Thomas and the other Gladers to reach outside to safety and escaped. In the film adaptation of The Death Cure, when being taken to a conference room in chains with Teresa, Minho whispered her name for her to get up physical contact so he can quickly grab her by her lab coat and shove her against the table twice on the back of her head.
Minho struck by Lightning

    • Peak Human Durability: Minho's mind strength had shown to be remarkable allowing him to have high pain tolerance for his muscles and bones to endure many methods of great impact forces without giving up on tasks. In the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, he was shown to have survive being struck by a bolt of lightning and electrocuted from stunned weaponry/items stabled without giving away any complaints towards neither situation. In the film adaptation of The Death Cure, he jumped out of the window on the 20th floor with his friends to land safely in a pool water area with no signs of pain.
Minho Willpowering

Minho's willpower allows him to briefly see the doctor through the simulation

  • Strong-Willed: In the film adaptation of The Death Cure, when WCKD used a virtualization simulator on him, Minho's brain mental toughness was strong enough to help him realize that the doctors were right in front of him working it for a minor short time period while his blood was being extracted and at the end of the experiment, Minho's condition remained well. His willpower also seems to help fight off sedative drugs for when WCKD escorts him to the medical wing to drain him out of his blood, he started to awaken from the dosage and the doctor requested they give him another but fails.
    Minho Thiefing

Minho stealing Teresa's hair clip before WCKD guards enter the room

  • Peak Human Thievery: In the film adaptation of The Death Cure, when being brought into a room to have conversation with Teresa, Minho pretended to be both tranquil and silent in order for her to come towards him, so he could physically grab her onto the table and take a metal hair clip from her and sneaks it without being caught by the incoming security guards.
Minho Quick-Scope

  • Peak Human Accuracy & Weapon Proficiency: When fighting against WCKD, Minho was shown to be remarkably skilled with a few types of guns, spears, and daggers which allowed him to perform great feats and benefit in a far and close ranged in combat. In the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, he seemed to have excellent bull-eyes aim with using a shotgun and rifle on his targets without the need of any assistance or practice. He quickly shoots the last few WCKD soldiers directly in the face with his Winchester Model 70 with ease.
Minho Melee

  • Dagger & Spear Proficiency: In the film adaptation of The Maze Runner, Minho is shown to be able to use both instruments of a dagger and a staff as weapons against opponents. He used the dagger for defense against Gally, who attempted to stop them from leaving the Maze, and later used the staff on the Grievers, who approached him. Then before heading out to the exit of the lab, the group was stopped by Gally, who was stung by a Griever and tried to shoot and kill Thomas, but only succeeded in shooting and killing Chuck, which caused Minho to throw his staff as a spear at Gally, causing it to non-fatally impale him in the chest.
Minho fight

Minho single-handedly fighting WCKD assailants

  • Expert Hand-to-hand Combatant: In the film adaptation of The Scorch Trials, Minho was shown to lethality fight against multiple opponents both offensive and defensively without any formal fighting style by relying on his strength, speed, and intellect well-trained at using his bare hands. He knew to wait for the right moment to sprint toward an armed WCKD guard and then used his knee to knock him to the back of his head against the stone wall unconsciously bleeding, then out in the Scorch, Minho even punched an incoming Crank in the face with no harm done to him. In the film adaptation of The Death Cure, when the doctors and scientists were ordered to begin the experiment to drain Minho of his blood, he managed to use the element of surprise on them by stabbing one in the thigh with the hair clip he stole from Teresa, kicked the guard known as "Echo 9" a few inches away from him, grabbed the other doctor's hand with a needle in it to inject it in his neck, and quickly charged at "Echo 9" armed with a gun who fired it at him, but somehow missed, got knocked out, and given a black eye by Minho. Then after escaping out of the medical wing, Minho met up with Thomas and Newt just in time to save them from a WCKD soldier holding them at gunpoint by tackling him against the wall and tossed him through the ballistic glass window unconscious due to his immense strength.
