The Maze Runner Wiki

Each Glader was assigned a Role based on what they could do best. There was a Keeper for each job, which the Newbie worked with for a day until they were decided on their role. At the end of two weeks, the Newbie was chosen for a role in one of the jobs based on the work they did best.

The First-in-Command was the leader of the Gladers, and the Gathering. The first-in-command was usually the Glader that has been in the Glade the longest. They made sure everything was going well. The First-in-Command was Alby, and was Nick before his death.

The Second-in-Command was like the First-in-Command, but was his number 2. If the first in command wasn't able to do his duties, the Second-in-Command was the leader. The Second-in-Command was Newt.

Runners were the only ones who were allowed to go out into the Maze. They were defined as the strongest, fastest, and best of the Gladers. Runners ran the Maze everyday, trying to find a way out. The Maps they make were saved in the Map Room. They left when the doors to the Maze open in the morning, and returned right before the doors closed. They also had equipment like trainers and watches that were unavailable to the rest of the Gladers. The Keeper of the Runners was Minho.

Builders were the ones who build most of the things around the Glade, such as structures and other simple items that could help with carrying and moving things around. They would also upgrade the structures and buildings. The Keeper of the Builders was Gally.

Cooks were the Gladers responsible for preparing meals for the Gladers. They spent most of their time in the kitchen. They made food from the work of the Blood Housers and Track-Hoes. The Keeper of the Cooks was Frypan.

Slicers fed and raise the livestock such as pigs, hogs, cows, sheeps, chickens, and turkeys, which were all kept in pens in the Blood House area. They also cleaned, fixed fences, and scrapeed up klunk. They were the ones who slaughtered the animals, such as hogs, so they could be prepared by the Blood Housers and Cooks for eating. The Keeper of the Slicers was Winston.

Blood Housers

Blood Housers took the meat of the slicers and prepared it before giving it to the cooks. The Keeper of the Blood Housers was not mentioned in the book, but is theorized to be Winston, being the Keeper of the Slicers and the Blood Housers.

Track-hoes did difficult work related to plants, such as trenching. In the film, they did gardening, but in the Book, they did other plant-related work. The Keeper of the Track-hoes was Zart.

Gardeners prepared fruits and vegetables for the cooks. They took care of the plants in the Gardens: weeding, pruning, planting seeds, and harvesting veggies are examples of the things they had done. The Keeper of the Gardeners was not mentioned in the Book.

Med-jacks were specialized Gladers who acted as the equivalent to doctors in the Glade. Their roles were prominent in the first book, The Maze Runner. There were only two Med-jacks in the Glade. The Keeper of the Med-Jacks was Clint.

Sloppers were the Gladers who were not good at any of the jobs, so they helped around the Glade mostly by doing the dirty tasks that other Gladers didn't want to do, such as cleaning up the Blood House, kitchen, toilets, and showers. The Keeper of the Sloppers wasn't mentioned in the book.

Bricknicks were the Gladers who had similar responsibilities to the Builders, but were mainly tasked with repairing the structures instead of building them. Bricknicks were not mentioned in the book, nor was the keeper. There might have been Bricknicks in the book, just weren't mentioned.

Baggers were the ones in charge of burying dead Gladers. They also acted as guards and police around the Glade. The Keeper of the Baggers was Billy.

Map-makers were the ones who make the Maps of the Maze with the runners. They spent their days studying the maps while the runners run. The Keeper of the Map-makers wasn't mentioned in the book.
